Despite being one of the NBA’s biggest stars, Stephen Curry remained a mystery to his 2-year-old son, Canon, until recently.
During a virtual appearance on Friday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ayesha Curry shared that their youngest child had a surprising misconception about his famous father. “He’s such a boy’s boy,” she remarked about Canon, noting his early interest in basketball.
“For the longest time, he actually thought his dad was a golfer because of the pandemic and the absence of basketball season,” the mother of three explained. “So he’s just now realizing that his dad and his uncles play basketball. It’s been an exciting revelation for us.”
Earlier this year, Canon even joined his father, the 34-year-old Golden State Warriors star, on the court, giving him a high-five after a March game against the Utah Jazz.
In her conversation with DeGeneres, the creator of Sweet July also expressed her excitement about watching her husband’s remarkable season unfold. “It’s insane. It is so insane,” she exclaimed about his increasing list of achievements. “And he’s one of the older guys out there now, believe it or not.”
The author of The Seasoned Life further remarked, “It’s just been really cool to witness him breaking all these records and doing it with such humility and modesty. He comes home, and it’s like it never happened. He just wants some popcorn and some candy.”
Despite the Warriors facing challenges this season, the two-time MVP has been consistently shattering records.
Just last month, Curry surpassed Wilt Chamberlain to claim the title of the Warriors’ all-time leading scorer. Additionally, he made history by becoming the first player aged 33 or older in NBA history to score 30 or more points in 11 consecutive games, surpassing the late legend Kobe Bryant’s record.
Adding to his impressive feats, in April, Curry set a new NBA record for the most 3-pointers made in a single month. Achieving this milestone on April 25, the father of three had already netted a remarkable total of 85 shots, which later surged to 96 by month’s end.
Moreover, earlier this week, Curry made history once again by becoming the fastest player to reach 300 3-pointers in a single season, accomplishing this feat in just 58 games.
Long-standing teammate Draymond Green recently shared with ESPN his continuous admiration for Curry’s prowess and how it motivates their team to excel further. “Incredible, man,” remarked Green. “The way he’s leading us, it’s been incredible to watch. His scoring is just a byproduct of that — the leadership, the demeanor that he’s taking on the floor each and every night to give guys, the example that he’s setting.”
