One of the most admired and well-known basketball players of all time is Dwyane Wade, the former player for the Miami Heat.
However, internet parodies and mockery target his famous status after retirement. Following Wade’s Instagram story post with the message, “When you smell your own morning breath,” came the most recent round of jokes.
Things like this wouldn’t normally make the news. However, because of Wade’s vast following, it rapidly gained traction on social media, drawing more jeers from Twitter users and basketball enthusiasts for the former Heat player.
Some acknowledged the disparities in his basketball reputation and off-court persona.
“Bro was my favorite player growing up and he’s my goat but oh my god I can’t defend him anymore,” one user said.
One fan even brought up the infamous Wade-James Harden debate about the third best shooting guard of all-time, jokingly saying this post elevates Harden an over the longtime Heat star.
In other Heat news, on Wednesday night, the team will play in their reunion with former Heat shooter Max Strus, the Cleveland Cavaliers (8-6). With eight victories in their previous nine games, Miami is fourth in the Eastern Conference.
