Terry Rozier led the Miami Heat to victory with 34 points, including a game-winning 3-pointer in the last minute, as they held off the New York Knicks 109-99 on Tuesday night to move one step closer to an Eastern Conference playoff berth.
For the Heat, Jimmy Butler had 17 points, Bam Adebayo contributed 15, and Haywood Highsmith ended with 14.
With 3:23 remaining, Miami’s advantage was down to just one point, but they managed to hold on, and Rozier’s ninth 3-pointer of the game, made with 34 seconds remaining, right in front of the New York bench, cemented the victory.
For New York, Jalen Brunson ended with 20 points and 10 assists, Deuce McBride contributed 24 points, and Donte DiVincenzo scored 31 points.
Bojan Bogdanovic gave New York a score of 16. On Nov. 24, the Knicks overcame a 21-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Miami, and they were on the verge of pulling off another spectacular comeback until Rozier scored in the Heat’s most crucial situation.
Miami (42-33) closed the gap on idle Indiana to only a half-game for the coveted No. 6 slot in the East, which is the final certain postseason berth. The Heat also did their neighbors in Florida a favor; the idle Orlando Magic, who own the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Knicks, jumped ahead of New York (44-31) into No. 4 in the East.
The 76ers visit Miami on Thursday, and the Heat are still 1 1/2 games ahead of Philadelphia for seventh place in the East.
Kevin Love returned to the Miami team after missing the previous sixteen games due to heel discomfort, and he finished with eight points for the first time in over a month. Tyler Herro, who missed his 19th straight game due to right foot tendinitis, was remained out of the lineup for the Heat.
Mitchell Robinson of New York, who had been out for over four months following surgery on his left ankle, returned for the third time in the previous four games. However, Julius Randle (right shoulder) and O.G. Anunoby (right elbow) were still out of the Knicks lineup. Randle has now missed 29 straight games after missing the first 29. Anunoby hasn’t played since suffering an ιnjury against Miami in late January.
Randle’s return this season is still something the Knicks are hoping for.
Tom Thibodeau, the coach of the Knicks, stated, “You have to have a belief that it will turn, which I do.” “Who knows when it will happen—it may be tomorrow, the day after, or even sooner—but just keep giving every day your all. Thus, exercise, complete your rehabilitation, make every effort to strengthen your shoulder, and proceed accordingly.
