UNTOLD: Damian Lillard files for divorce from wife Kay’La shortly after blockbuster Bucks trade

Damian Lillard is divorcing his wife, Kay’La.

Less than a week after being traded from the Trail Blazers to the Bucks, the seven-time NBA All-Star filed for divorce from his college sweetheart on October 2, according to Portland’s Willamette Week.

The now-former couple’s relationship “caused the irremediable breakdown” due to “irreconcilable differences,” according to the lawsuit.

According to the article, Kay’La relocated to a $2.7 million West Linn property in December while Lillard stayed at their $7.7 million apartment in the same Portland area.

According to People, the Lillards were married in September 2021 and have three children together: two-year-old twins Kalii and Kali and five-year-old son Damian Jr.

When they first met at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, Kay’La and Lillard were 33-year-old point guards who told Ebony in 2021 that she “took care of” him.

She went above and beyond for me and had the vehicle and apartment. At the time, Lillard stated, “Kay’La accepted me with all my flaws as a young man.”

In 2020, at the NBA All-Star weekend in Chicago, Lillard proposed to Kay’La.

“I told her we were going to the NBA’s new Valentine’s Day event. He recounted to Ebony, “We arrived at the location where I had a wall full of roses designed with ‘Will You Marry Me?'”

News of Lillard’s divorce breaks just as he embarks on a new chapter in his career with the Bucks.
