For his mother Marilyn Blount’s 56th birthday, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo purchased her a new house.
The 23-year-old NBA All-Star posted photographs on Instagram of him and his mother entering the home for the first time. The mother-son pair embrace emotionally in two pictures while wearing masks.
“Happy Birthday, My Whole You Deserve More. This is my sh*t #MommaGotACrib “Adebayo captioned the photo.
Adebayo’s NBA teammates Kevin Love, Chris Bosh, Derrick Jones Jr., and Dewan Hernandez sent good wishes.
ESPN said that Adebayo and his mother raised him in a single-wide trailer in North Carolina.
“My mom never had nothing that she could call her own,” Adebayo told the site Monday. “I’ve always aspired to be a fantastic basketball player growing up. Getting to do it for my mom is amazing.”
Adebayo, who was born in New Jersey but started his basketball career in North Carolina, was “so nervous” before surprise his mom with the house.
“I never really gave her a gift like that,” remarked. It reminded me of my first Finals appearance. Unsure of what to anticipate. I was clueless.”
“Her face was priceless,” Adebayo said of Blount’s new house.
“Just seeing that woman go through all she went through and finally getting a break and being able to sаy, ‘This is mine,’ and ‘I own this,’ that was a big thing for me,” he said. “My mom has never owned anything, so I wаnted her to sаy, ‘This is mine’ and feel good about it. I wаnted her to feel my home with 10 toes down.”
The elite athlete also put a picture of their old trailer at the front entrance to remember their progress.
“I wаnted everybody to see where we actually came from,” Adebayo. And who enters doesn’t matter. That image will constantly appear. I placed it there so everyone could see our roots. I remember my upbringing, my bаttle to buy my mom a new cot, and her living circumstances. So that’s the picture’s major idea.”
Basketball player Adebayo attended Northside High School in North Carolina. The Heat selected him 14th overall in the 2017 NBA draft after he played college basketball for Kentucky.
The 2019–20 NBA All-Defensive Second Team included Adebayo, who has since been selected an NBA All-Star. His five-year Heat contract agreement is for $163 million, with the option to increase to $195.6 million, according to Sports Illustrated.
