NBA superstar Jimmy Butler works hard, and the Miami Heat man doesn’t take his game for granted.
If you have read about Butler, chances are, you would have sensed that he’s not a guy to mess around. A strong work ethic, rock-hard motivation and dedication to the task at hand are qualities that ring true with Butler.
Butler wakes up at 4 am every day – every single day – for his workout. Before the likes of even LeBron James have rolled out of bed, Butler is on his way to the gym, ready to put in his best every day to be the best on the court.
A Day in the Life of Jimmy Butler
Ten years ago, the most important things in basketball were being tough and big. The NBA may be more interested than any other league in health, food, and the science of how people perform these days.
Jimmy Butler is the first person to make this change because he works out at 4 a.m. He gets ready for hoops in every way first thing in the morning. This is what he says:
“There’s a rhythm to it, and I don’t skip any of it.” I do everything in the right way.
For Butler, every minute of every hour is carefully planned, starting with the workout. After that, he rests in the cold room, does speed drills, and then plays on the court. His mind is busy while his body sleeps going over game tapes and playing games like dominoes to get better at planning.
Even the way he sleeps is strictly controlled. Butler wants to sleep nine hours every night, which means he needs to be in bed by 7 pm. He gets ready for bed three hours early with herbal tea, a cold-air vaporizer, and a ban on all screens.
“I always eat at the right time.” I go to sleep at the right time. “I check my email while I play dominoes,” he says.
Scott, who used to work for the Houston Rockets, has been in charge of Butler’s workouts for the past two years. His job has been to train NBA players for 15 years, but Butler is the best he has ever seen.
Being hired by Butler was the first time he had ever trained someone at 4:00 am.
“He is never late, not even by a minute, regardless of the time or location,” he says.
Jimmy Butler’s Workout
Butler starts his workouts by throwing a 10-pound medicine ball to strengthen his wrists. His next move is to hold 45-pound plates next to him, drop them, and quickly catch them to improve his grip.
Then Scott throws him red and blue balls while he stands on one leg and a resistance band pulls him off-center. This is one of his best drills because it tests both his balance and his ability to focus. He needs to use his left hand to catch the red ones and his right hand to catch the blue ones.
Butler loves all works outs that only use one leg. As part of his routine, he does single-leg squats, single-leg box jumps, and single-leg balance.
Butler works out his abs with bridges, planks, and other moves before going to the game. He gets better at shooting by taking about 1,000 jump shots over the next hour. This has made him one of the league’s most dangerous clutch scorers.
Jimmy Butler is on his way home for a breakfast of egg-white omelettes, bananas, and berries by the time the sun rises. He will then heal on the ice or do yoga, and then he will do more drills.
Butler goes back to the American Airlines Arena at 3:00 pm to see if anyone wants to play pick-up hoops. Scott says that’s a whole new level of energy.
Why Butler is One of the Fittest
Jimmy Butler keeps up his work ethic because he knows it gives him an edge over other people and is in his control.
Along with MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, Clippers stars Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, and young star Zion Williamson, the NBA keeps getting bigger and more athletic. That means Butler, who is described as being a nice 6’8″, is just normal.
Jimmy Butler makes a living by working harder and longer than his opponents. He has played the most minutes in the NBA and is very active on both offense and defense. In five different seasons, he scored more than 20 points per game.
Working out at 4 a.m. gives him an edge because it makes him stronger. Scott concurs:
“He’s the most competitive person I’ve ever met.” It’s not just hoops either. When you’re with him, charades is the most serious game you’ve ever played. You may choose to play some other game instead of Uno.
Jimmy Butler doesn’t let anyone scare him because he is proud of being second best. How does he say it?
“I am stronger than you. I’ll put my money there, and you can learn to be tough. I never give up on someone. No one scares me. It doesn’t matter what you did or what your name is. I’m not scared at all. That’s why I’m here.”
Jimmy Butler: Coffee and Sleep
Is an All-Star Forward for the Miami Heat It’s no secret that Jimmy Butler loves coffee. He has talked about how much he loves coffee more than once, and during the NBA Bubble Season, he even started selling it to other players.
Jimmy Butler’s coffee business has finally grown into a full-fledged company called “Big Face Coffee.” It all started as a side job during the NBA’s “Bubble Season.”Even though Butler said he could drink 7–10 cups of coffee a day, he told the New York Times writer that sleep is very important to him.
Jim spoke up.
“Every night I get nine hours of sleep.” That’s something I’ve trained my body to do. As much as I love coffee, I need nine hours of sleep every night to feel like I’m worth anything. I’m used to having a lot of coffee and a lot of sleep at the same time.
This shows that the NBA star is very serious about his health and success.
