Jimmy Butler, a former standout player for the Bulls, made headlines when he listed his River North estate for $5 million.
However, the true conversation starter was Butler’s shoe-filled closet, which is probably larger than your whole apartment. A picture of the space displays shelves full with shoes, some of which are expensive, similar pairs, and additional shoes scattered over the floor.
So, what is Butler’s shoe count?
At least 1,054 shoes, or 526 pairs, were tallied by DNAinfo; but, because the closet isn’t fully visible in the picture, there may be more.
Among the things we discovered: Butler seems to have many pairs of cowboy boots (see them on the left side of the picture). The Red Eye was informed in 2012 by Texas native Butler that he enjoys wearing cowboy boots and has an impressive collection that rivaled that of other players’ gym shoe purchases.
Additionally, Butler seems to own four pairs of Jordan AJ 1 High Decons, each of which sells for around $90. There are two pairs in baby blue and two pairs in pink. Two more pairs of the original Air Jordan 1 Retro High sneakers are available for $175–$180.
During an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Tuesday night, Butler was questioned about his enormous collection of sneakers. Initially, he made a joke about telling the network to remove the picture of his shoes that was shown briefly during the interview.
When questioned if he was happy of the selection shown in the image, he said, “I love my sneakers and my brand.” When you are associated with the Jordan brand, you can see that they constantly take excellent care of me.”
Although the Air Jordan XII Low ($170) is one of Butler’s favorite sneakers, he mostly wears a pair of Air Jordan 1s ($160), as he revealed to Complex earlier this year. Butler said that during the player’s visit to the White House, former President Barack Obama even commented to him that he loved his footwear.
According to Butler, “I don’t really pay attention to how much sneakers cost or anything like that,” Complex said. “I just like sneakers, to tell the trutҺ.”
