For the sixth straight season, Nikola Jokic was chosen for the NBA All-Star Game, an honor that should come as no surprise by now.
LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Jokic were the other two Western Conference front-court starters that were voted in. Jokic ranked first among players, first among journalists, and second among fans, after James, according to TNT’s Ernie Johnson.
The 2024 game will take place at Indianapolis’ Gainbridge Fieldhouse on February 18, 2024, closing a weekend of events that will include the customary 3-point and slam dunk competitions. Jokic had a triple-double of 31 points at Indiana on Wednesday, including the game-winning three with 4.7 seconds left.
Before Thursday night’s game against the Knicks, Jokic had shot 74.2% from the floor, 61.1% from beyond the arc, and 86% from the foul line in his previous 13 games. With a minimum usage rate of 15%, his 79.6% true shooting since Christmas leads the NBA.
The Nuggets center leads the team in scoring, rebounds, and assists per game with an average of 26.2. After earning NBA Finals MVP in June, he has participated in all but one of Denver’s games this season and has 13 triple-doubles.
This year’s All-Star Game will revert to its original format, with a 12-player Eastern Conference team against a 12-player Western Conference squad. The previous six years’ method, in which two chosen captains selected their teams, is no longer used by the league. Instead of using a goal score in the fourth quarter, the game will revert to its original format of four 12-minute quarters.
Reserves have not yet been disclosed, but starters were declared Thursday night. Jamal Murray, the point guard for the Nuggets, is hoping to play in his first All-Star Game.
2024 Western Conference starting for the NBA All-Star Game are: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Luka Doncic.
Eastern Conference players: Joel Embiid, Tyrese Haliburton, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, and Damian Lillard
