Although the Miami Heat are renowned for their effort and perseverance, the Memphis Grizzlies showed their fire on Wednesday night as they defeated the Heat 105-96 at Kaseya Center.
The Grizzlies played with a lot more vigor than the Heat did, diving for loose balls and creating thefts and deflections. Memphis had a 14-point advantage going into the fourth quarter as a result of such effort.
The Grizzlies merely needed to hang on against a Heat squad that had four players averaging over 20 points per game, even with just nine players playing. In the last two minutes of the quarter, the Heat increased their effort level and reduced the Grizzlies’ advantage to two points.
Memphis was ready to take care of the run. With the shot clock running down, Vince Williams Jr. made a corner 3-pointer to give the Grizzlies a five-point lead in the last minute.
With 25 points, Williams led the Grizzlies (17-27). Scotty Pippen Jr., the recently acquired two-way guard, had a significant contribution late in the game after coming off the bench to score a career-high 15 points and dish out six assists.
The Heat (24–20) were limited to 40.2% shooting against Memphis.
These are a few lessons learned from the game.
Another new Memphis Grizzlies lineup
On Wednesday, Santi Aldama and Luke Kennard were added to the Memphis team’s inactive roster. The Grizzlies’ ninth starting lineup in the previous ten games resulted from their absences. Starting in place of Kennard, Jacob Gilyard scored two 3-pointers and dished out a game-high seven assists. Every one of the five starters had more than two assists and at least one steаl.Even though the Heat’s starting lineup was superior, the Grizzlies’ bench performed just as well, outscoring them 38–31.
Young dynamic duo
The two greatest X-factors were two players who had two-way contracts at the beginning of the season. Playing excellent defense, Williams nailed his first four 3-pointers, while GG Jackson was a standout player off the bench, making easy baskets. In the first half, Jackson and Williams led the Grizzlies in scoring, and both players played a significant role in Memphis’ triumph. Jackson ended with 17 points, four 3-pointers, two assists, and four rebounds.
Jaren Jackson Jr. struggles
Near the conclusion of the first quarter, Jaren Jackson Jr. made two fast baskets after Miami big Bam Adebayo was sent to the bench. Adebayo was immediately substituted back in by Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, neutralizing Jackson’s scoring, who ended the half 2-for-10.In the second half, Jackson adopted a more аggressive stance and promptly fouled Adebayo twice. However, Jackson was still restrained by the Miami big man. Jackson ended with 15 points on 5 of his 21 shots.
