The Miami Heat defeated the Golden State Warriors 114-102 on Thursday for their fourth straight win.
Five key takeaways:
1. Miami’s defense stopped Golden State’s studs.
A game with numerous injured key players was won by the Heat. Despite dismal three-point shooting, their defense shined. Warriors superstar Stephen Curry scored 13 points on 20% shooting. On 4/11 shooting, Klay Thompson scored 13 points.
2. Jamal Cain had a season-best game.
Cain struggled to make the team early on. He is now playing well in a comfortable victory. He finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals on 50% shooting in 28 minutes. Jimmy Butler and Caleb Martin’s absence allowed Cain to prosper.
3. Tyler Herro made another All-Star appearance.
Herro deserves All-Star consideration despite missing over a dozen games. He contributed to their decisive victory with 26 points, seven rebounds, and 10 of 18 shooting. However, his shot selection was sometimes dubious.
4. Jaime Jaquez Jr. ruled.
A top NBA rookie isn’t slowing down. Jaquez, 22, is a talented attacking player. He finished with 17 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds on 46.7 percent shooting. If he keeps playing well, Jaquez might start full-time.
5. The Warriors’ rookies are promising.
Guard Brandin Podziemski, along with forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, are the newest members of Golden State’s future. New first-round selection Podziemski scored 10 points on 44.4 percent shooting. Jackson-Davis had 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
