The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Celtics on Christmas Day, and LeBron James is not happy with where the team is right now.
James told reporters, “I don’t think we’re where we wanna be to be able to compete against the top teams.”
Los Angeles (16-15) is now in ninth place in the Western Conference after losing five of their past six games. The Lakers obviously need to change if they are to even contend for a championship, much less go to the postseason.
It’s unclear how the Lakers will go about implementing that adjustment, but it appears very much on the table to make a few moves prior to the trade deadline.
The Lakers’ current lineup, which consists of James and Anthony Davis, will be their mainstays as they have shown consistency this season. Only a few days after James scored 40 points against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Davis had a fantastic game on Monday against the Celtics, finishing with 13 rebounds and 40 points.
Davis is scoring 24.4 points and pulling down 12.4 rebounds a game, while James is scoring 25.7 points, grabbing 7.7 rebounds, and dishing out 7.3 assists.
The Lakers’ final three games of 2023 will be against the Charlotte Hornets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and New Orleans Pelicans, according to their schedule.
The Lakers will now search for the necessary alteration after James made it clear that something had to happen.
