In 2021, O’Neal gave an explanation to Men’s Journal, saying, “My sister, Ayesha Harrison-Jex, passed away before Kobe [Bryant].”
“And then Kobe died, and I lost 28 more people after that.
2020 was a terrible year, and I was at a loss for what to do.
“So, when you don’t want to do anything, but you need to stay out of trouble, there’s two things you can do: Eat and Netflix.”
O’Neal claimed that eventually he started to “look old,” which made him understand that he needed to adjust his way of living.
The Entenmann’s cakes, “late-night lemon Oreos,” and bread were thrown out.
O’Neal chose to substitute little servings of salads, poultry, fish, and protein shakes for fruit and vegetables.
He also increased the duration and intensity of his workouts, adding 20 minutes of cardio to 30 to 45 minutes of “some” back, chest, bis, tris, and sit-ups.
Overall, as of June 2021, this had assisted O’Neal in dropping 25–30 pounds.
Joking aside, he continued, “An hour a day will keep the Charles Barkley belly away.”
Ever since, O’Neal appears to have persisted in maintaining his physical fitness and sharing his exercises on Instagram through sporadic videos.
During his October 2022 appearance on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, he disclosed his weight loss journey and expressed his desire to “become a sex symbol.”
O’Neal continued, saying, “I weighed 401 pounds. I’m 365 now. I’m attempting to go back to 345.
“I want to have muscles everywhere, and I want to do an underwear ad with my sons [for] Fruit of the Looms, baby.”
In October 2023, O’Neal rejoiced in his achievements by sharing a number of pictures of his evolving body with the remark, “Time to transform.”
